Wow, it’s been just over a week since Great Job, Mom! and Great Job, Dad! were officially released on March 26 and so much has happened!
First, even before pub date, I was thrilled to learn that Great Job, Mom! and Great Job, Dad! were included in librarian-extraordinaire Betsy Bird’s 2019 “Stellar Picks” list, which came out in mid-March. It was an honor to be on the list with kidlit luminaries like Adam Rubin (Dragons Love Tacos).
Then I was profiled in the Vancouver Courier, which included a video that has gone somewhat viral with over 13,000 views in short order. Check it out! And I love this photo by VanCourier photographer Dan Toulgoet, since I don’t have many pics of myself working. I look a little sleepy (my fault!) but the lighting is great.
Shortly after that, it was off to do an interview with Sheryl Mackay on CBC Radio’s British Columbia weekend arts show North by Northwest. You can check out the interview at 2:08:30 of the archived podcast here.
Then there was a TV blitz! Check out all these interviews! First up — City News:
Then came CTV Breakfast Television (sorry about all the ads!):
Finally, Global National News (just one short ad!):
In the meantime, a friend messaged me to congratulate me on the cover. I asked, “What cover?” It turns out that no one told me that I was put on the cover of the print version of the Vancouver Courier! How cool!
Of course, the publisher and I had created our own videos to support the Great Job book birthdays. First, I created my own musical book trailer. I wrote the song (and got a pro musician to record it, with backing vocals by my kids!) and taught myself some simple animation to bring the words and images from Great Job, Mom! and Great Job, Dad! to life:
Finally, on April 2, 2019 (my actual birthday!), I hosted a book launch at Vancouver’s best children’s book store, Kidsbooks. Photographer Sarah Murray was there to capture all of the festivities, and here’s a quick visual tour of my book launch. Enjoy Sarah’s great photographs!
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported my book launch. I really, really appreciate it!
It’s been a wonderful couple of weeks getting the word out about my new books here in Canada, and I look forward to the continued journey with Great Job, Mom! and Great Job, Dad! Next stop — getting the word out in the US!
